Mark Sofilas was born in Western Australia in 1961.
After obtaining his diploma in graphic design (specialising in Illustration), Mark began his professional career in 1981 as a freelance artist. He has worked in the Advertising, publishing and editorial industries in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney,Australia. Having worked as an illustrator/artist for over 20 years, Mark relocated to the UK in 2008 where he now paints full time from his studio in Leeds. Mark’s paintings are inspired by the idiosyncrasies of the northern English & Scottish countryside’s, bringing to his work the perspective of someone who originates from a very different landscape. Mark works primarily in oils and enjoys exploring textures, colour and the intrinsic geometry of the natural world.Mark has recently been accepted as an exhibiting member of ‘Leeds Fine Artists club UK’.
In Australia Mark’s clients included Coca Cola, Nestle, McDonalds, Australia Post, ANZ Bank, Westpac Bank, Carlton United Breweries, Time Magazine, Penguin Books, Toyota and Qantas Airlines.
The Humane Society International, The Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RhodeIsland and the Queensland Cricket Association, have exhibited Mark’s work. Mark Was commissioned to paint a series of past Australian Americas Cup contenders,which were published in ‘Two Decades of Challenge’. This limited edition bookforms part of the permanent collection of the White House Library.
Mark has also worked with many prominent Australian and international sporting Personalities to create fine art portraits and limited edition prints. These include among others Muhammad Ali ( former world heavyweight boxing champion ) and Sir Vivian Richards ( former star West Indian cricketer ).
Mark’s work has been selected for publication in Communication Arts ( a highl respected International Illustration annual) and has illustrated an award winning children’s book, “the Burnt Stick’ by the author Anthony Hill.
